Mongolia fully banned use of mercury Print E-mail

G.Shiilegdamba Minister of Ministry of Nature & Environment made an order prohibiting the use of mercury for mining and extract minerals in Mongolian territory from 8 April 24, 2008. Artisanal mining in local using mercury used to polluting environment but lately large amount of mercury discovered from Chinese who are operating in metropolitan making hazard to environment and negative impact to human in the city.
Also Mongolia is planning to deliver partly restricted and fully banned chemical substances lists in the country to the secretarial department of Rotterdam convention.

Although banning use of mercury is ruthless but in consideration of population health, environment, and national state of safety we should take force implementation. Thus provides us to get rid of old method that used early in XX century and adopt modern environment friendly and no effect human body technology. The government is working on to provide such opportunity, said Minister Shiilegdamba.

Police and Government Intelligence Agency is working on to reveal network that imports hazardous chemical substances and dangerous elements through the territory.

Also, There will be no legal accuse if any civil who is keeping hazardous chemical substances brings to legislative and inspectory agency in volunteer. And there will be a reward for reporting about using mercury, said Ministry of Nature & Environment.

He noticed, mercury use ban is also applicable to foreign invested business entity and companies.
